CDF Upper School classes are student-centered and inclusive of all learning styles. They celebrate each individual by encouraging creative thinking and individual expression
through dance.
Students may choose from the following Upper School Classes (while not required, Upper School students are strongly encouraged to take two or more classes per week):
Ballet
Modern
Jazz
Tap
Student Ensemble
Goals for the Upper School Student:
- To broaden the students knowledge of the body and the movement it is capable of performing, according to its anatomical structure and physical laws of motion;
- To improve strength, flexibility, endurance and coordination;
- To encourage creative thinking, individual expression;
- To build self confidence;
- To experience joy in moving;
- To develop an ability to lead, follow and evaluate with objectivity
Class Attire:
Students are expected to be in the appropriate dancewear for every class. Students should also have all hair tightly secured away from the face. If hair is short, it should be back in a headband. You can shop for dance wear at CDF. On-line retailers include: www.discountdance.com and www.dancedistributors.com.
Leotard in assigned color:
Level I: royal blue or purple leotard
Level II: burgundy or red leotard
Level III: black leotard
Pink tights and pink ballet shoes for Ballet; black leggings or pants for Modern, Jazz and Tap; bare feet for modern, black soft-sole jazz shoes, black tap shoes.

1st Dress Rehearsal: Saturday, April 16, 2011 at CDF studios
2nd Dress Rehearsal: Thursday, April 28, 2011 at the Alabama Theatre
Performance: Saturday, April 30, 2011, 7pm at the Alabama Theatreth family and friends -- complete with something special to wear. At Children's Dance Foundation.
